Before you get started, you’ll need the following information:

• What you earn
• What you own (e.g. property, vehicles, savings)
• What you owe (e.g. loans, credit cards, hire purchases)
• How much you want to borrow (if you''re unsure, use our calculators to work it out)

To apply you need to be at least 18 years old, a New Zealand permanent resident or citizen and have a good credit history. We will conduct a credit check as part of this application process.

If your deposit is less than 20% of the property value, your application will be referred to a home loan specialist for assessment. A low equity fee may apply. All banks, including Kiwibank are subject to Reserve Bank restrictions on lending over 80% of a property’s value. If you’re a first home buyer, Kiwibank will give you priority over those buying investment properties, but we can’t guarantee that the loan will be available.

How long will it take?

The application form should take around 25 minutes to complete. But, as long as you’ve completed up to page 2, we’ll save it, and email the application number to you so you can come back to it later. All you need to do is finish it within seven days.

What happens next?

Once you submit your completed application, we'll respond within 60 seconds and you'll either:

• Receive a conditional home loan pre-approval, subject to us getting evidence to support your application, or

  You’ll still need to complete our usual home loan approval process before you get final confirmation of whether a loan is available. Until you get final approval for a loan, any offer you make to buy a property should be conditional on finance. Kiwibank’s lending criteria, terms and conditions, interest rates, fees and charges apply.

• Be referred to a home loan specialist

Either way, a home loan specialist will be in touch within 3 business days to discuss next steps and complete the home loan process.

If you can’t complete the whole application in one go, as long you have completed at least page 2 we''ll save it, and email the application number to you. All you need to do is finish it within seven days.
